Video Case Study

In early 2023, GGRS Energie partnered with Tipografic, a leading provider in packaging and label design, to support their commitment to achieving Carbon Net Zero. The collaboration began with the design and installation of a large-scale rooftop solar PV system at Tipohgraifc’s Birkenhead site.

Why should your business use solar?

At Solarva our culture comes to life through three core values:

1

Lower Energy costs

Lower Energy Costs: Reinvest utility savings directly into your business.
2

Energy Security

Shield your operations from fossil fuel market volatility.
3

ESG Excellence

Quantifiable CO2 reporting (equivalent to 12,000+ trees planted).*
4

Peak Saving

Use battery storage (up to 250kWh) to reduce "Red Zone" peak charges.
5

Up to 100% Tax Deductible (For Businesses)

The Annual Investment Allowance (AIA) may allow eligible business to claim tax releif.
6

Business Rate Exempt

Rooftop solar is exempt from rate increases until 2035.

Strong Return on Investment Potential

Many UK businesses have seen attractive returns from solar and energy storage, although performance will depend on factors such as energy usage, system design, and electricity prices.

Improving Payback Potential

With rising electricity costs, businesses are seeing improved payback periods from solar and energy storage.

FAQs
How long do commercial solar panels last?

Solar panels are designed for long-term durability, typically maintaining an optimal performance rate for 25 to 30 years. Overtime, their output may gradually reduce due to environmental exposure. While the panels themselves have a long lifespan, you may encounter issues after approximately five years due to a faulty solar PV inverter, which has a significantly shorter lifespan. These inverters are essential for converting the energy harvested by the panels into usable electricity power.

If an inverter fails, replacement is typically straightforward and can restore system performance with minimal disruption. If you suspect an issue with your inverter, we recommend contacting our maintenance team promptly. Our diagnostic services are designed to protect this investment, to support system performance and help maintain efficiency.

What ROI and payback periods can solar installations achieve?

Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems can deliver attractive long-term financial returns; however, outcomes vary significantly depending on site-specific and market conditions.

Independent industry modelling and real-world project data indicate that commercial solar installations may achieve:

Payback periods ranging approximately from 6 to 9 years.

Indicative annual returns on investment typically in the range of approximately 15% to 25%.

Long-term project lifetimes of 25 years or more, with declining output over time due to normal system degradation.

Battery storage lifespans typically ranging from 10 to 15 years, meaning battery components will generally require a replacement midway through the solar array's 25+ year peak generation period.

These figures represent scenario-based estimates rather than guaranteed or typical outcomes.

Are there tax incentives for my business?

Yes. UK businesses may be able to benefit from capital allowances, including the Annual Investment Allowance (AIA), which can allow qualifying capital expenditure such as solar installations to be offset against taxable profits, subject to eligibility and current tax rules.

In some cases, this may allow a significant portion or potentially the full cost of the installation to be relieved against taxable profits in the year of purchase, depending on the business’s tax position.

Tax treatment varies by circumstance and may change over time. Independent tax advice is recommended.

Do we need planning permission for a large-scale array?

Most installations fall under Permitted Development. However, systems over 50kW require "Prior Approval," a process our team handles for you.

How does solar integrate with our current energy supply?

The transition is seamless. We install a "grid-tied" system that works alongside your existing supply. Your facility will automatically use solar power first; if your demand exceeds what the panels are producing, the building pulls the remainder from the grid instantly. There is zero downtime during the switchover.

Is battery storage necessary for a commercial site?

If you have high "peak demand" charges or operate 24/7, a battery allows for peak saving using stored energy to avoid expensive grid spikes.
